First Impression: Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balm

I was so excited to see new beauty products from Rimmel. I think this is a brand that is often overlooked or just never though of when people talk about make-up. I know that Rimmel has some great products but, 6 out of 10 times their products are not up to par with the other drugstore brands (meaning foundations, mascaras and eye shadows).

I was excited to see that Rimmel came out with their version of a lip balm. As you all know Revlon, Clinique, Tarte and Wet’n Wild have their own versions out, and I wanted to see how it compares. I was thrilled that they cost $4.97 (at least here in VA) that’s a lot less than the other brand’s lip balms.

I picked up two different colors because I wasn’t sure how they would perform. I wanted to test out a natural every day color and a more vibrant summer color. I wanted to see if their was a difference between both because sometimes the brighter ones wear better than the natural colors.

Right off the bat the first thing you notice when you take the lid off is that these lip balms smell like vanilla. I had to stop for a second because it smelled so good then I checked again, and yes the scent is vanilla. I really enjoy it the scent. Being someone who bakes often vanilla is one of my favorite smells.

These apply just like any other lip balm that you might have already tried. They have a pointy start like a crayon and the product twists up to dispense. One thing I am a bit worried about is how easy the bottom portion twist & turns, dispensing the product with the cap on. I think as long as you don’t mess with the bottom portion that twist you can avoid a mess inside the lid. Just be careful when you open them.

Overall these have slowly become one of my favorite lip products. It may have to be because I choose two colors I know I will get a lot of use out of. These lip balms are soft and don’t dry out my lips. The color pay off is awesome and they last just like any other lip product. They do leave behind a nice lip stain which is nice for those of us who don’t have time to reapply their lip products. If your looking for something super long wearing that will keep the same color and pigmentation through out the day this is not it. For the price these are a awesome lip balm.

Have you tried these yet? What is your favorite drugstore lip balm?

Makeup Talk: Pressed/Loose Powders – Day 3

Today I wanted to talk about Pressed/Loose Powders. I have collected a couple while I search for the “right” pressed powder for me. I am a bit ashamed of this I never realized how many I have *shakes head in shame*

I figured this was a good thing because I could review my pressed powder collection. Keep in mind most of these are drugstore products so they are easily accessible and won’t break you bank.

Covergirl Clean Pressed Powder

This pressed powder has seen better days. This is my very first pressed powder that I ever purchased since then I have gone through a few of these in multiple shades. This is my fall/winter shade incase you were curious. I like that this is very light weight and perfect for winter. I honestly won’t recommend this if you are looking for a powder that will control oil this pretty much does nothing for oil control that is why it is my fall/winter powder. Overall I feel that if you are looking for a basic pressed powder this is a good one for beginners.

Maybelline Shine Free Loose Powder

This loose free powder was the first ever loose powder I ever tried. I feel like they should come with a warning label. Saying “Caution very messy product”. With that being stated if you are careful this is a great powder. It has a very light weight feeling on the skin. I absolutely love this during the summer maybe it is because the coverage is a bit more than the Covergirl pressed powder, but it is not too heavy. The shine free claim is partially true I still get oily during the day but for a good 3-4 hrs it keeps shine away! One thing I do hate is that this is not travel friendly which annoys me. That is why some of the other pressed powders were purchased.

Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder

I feel like this is talked about by everyone and their grandmother! I have owned this powder for about 8 months. I bought it because I watch too many youtube videos that recommended it. This powder does have pretty good coverage. I use this when I am having really bad breakouts or just need to wear a bit more makeup than usual. The matte claim is partially true just like my Maybelline loose powder. This gives me 3-4 hrs of shine free forehead and chin. I love that I can travel with it but sometime the lid doesn’t secure so I tend to be more careful than say with my Covergirl Pressed powder.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Mineral Powder

This is the only high-end powder I own I received it in a birchbox. At first I was very curious how it would stack up to my Maybelline Loose powder then I realized these are two different kinds of products. This could be used as a light weight foundation. To my surprise this made my makeup look flawless and I had a full coverage face. The best part about this is that it has a SPF of 30 YAY! If you are lazy like myself the fact that this has extra sun protection is great. One thing I don’t like about it is that it has a $50+ dollar prize tag *gulp* I have used this sparingly. Overall I would say this does a good job at keeping my face shine free longer than any other product but after the 5+ hr mark I see some shine peeking through. This has a screw on lid and its very travel friendly. I will note that the full size comes in a different container that has a big brush at the end. Google it if I’ve peeked you curiosity.

Revlon Nearly Naked Powder

Last but not least is Revlon’s Nearly Naked Powder. This I feel like was the talk of the town earlier this year. I picked it up to see what all the fuzz was about. I had a hard time picking a shade because they all looked darker than their name. I picked up Light and I feel like it was more of a medium color not light at all. Overall I do like it for summer it is one of the “darker” (and I use that word loosely) powders I own. It does leave me with a natural looking face. I honestly don’t think this does anything for my oily face. I think this would another great powder for beginners a little bit of this goes a long way. My one and only issue with this is the packaging! I feel that it is huge and not very space-saving in my opinion.

That concludes my pressed/loose powder ramble! Hope you all enjoyed this.

What is your favorite pressed or loose powder?
Any I should check out?

Have a great Thursday!
See you tomorrow for a OOTD : )

A insta-haul

This year has been all about using what I have and staying away from temptation in these categories:
-Skin Care
-Nail polishes
and clothes.

My will is weak and here is a what I bought. I actually ran out of a few things, but hey I’m a sucker for a new little pick me up to temporary spicy up my routine.

As you can see I didn’t do that much damage to my wallet and I did pick up a few new things. Here is what I think about them so far.

First off this Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose Kiss. EVERYONE has been raving about this product. I decided to try it out. First off this is a very thin lip butter. By thin I mean it won’t feel thick, EVER no matter how much you put on. It is relatively hydrating I would give it a 6 out 10, this is not my favorite lip balm. I do love that I can layer it under a lipstick without it feeling too thick or to goopy. Overall I would say skip it buy Burts Bees or an actual hydrating lip balm in a tube.

Second thing I got is the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal pencil in Nude. I have heard that this can be compared to Tarte’s emphasEyes Inner Rim brightened in Nude. I absolutely love it. It is the perfect shade to put into your waterline and “wake you up”. You can’t beat the price for this lovely pencil. Once I saw it in stock I had to grab it, those are rare gems in my drugstore.

The third thing I picked up is the Eucerin Professional Repair Extremely Dry Skin Lotion. I ran out of my Eucerin Skin Calming Daily Moisturizing Creme and I though I would try something new. So far this has a bit more of a gel like consistency. It seems to be doing the job but I am still testing it out.

I know a pretty boring haul. Next time I will try to spice up what I buy … or maybe not we shall see.

Have you purchased anything new recently?

What I’m loving week #10

Can I just give myself a pat on the back? *pats self on back*
This is by far the longest time I have been blogging, consecutively. YAY!
(It’s the little things in life you have to celebrate… right?)

So it’s another Monday and surprise surprise it snowed last night.
Spring is slowly arriving this year. Sigh I guess I need to just enjoy the snow.
Here is what I have been loving this week.

Yes I know this is just a bunch of beauty products well I’m a girl what can I say.

First let’s start off with the non-beauty products shall we. I have just started reading Safe Haven and I am not ashamed. How cute is this owl stamp? I couldn’t resist it had to be mine 🙂

This past week was all about no fuss products. I have been loving the Rimmel stay matte powder, where has this been all my life? I finally caved in and tried the Covergirl clump crusher. This mascara gives me nice lashes without a lot of work. Last but not least I wanted a spring color on my nails, but as you can see from the picture above the snow is still here I can’t be rocking a vibrant color just yet. This L’OREAL color is perfect: club prive 105.

How was your Monday?
See you on Wednesday.
