Taking Care of One’s self

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Happy Valentine’s Day, As you walk around today thinking about all the love that is being shown all around you I want to take a moment and focus on you! Yes you. Often times we tend to over look ourselves because we focus on others. Well I thought it would be appropriate to switch that up and share some ways that I do self care. Self Care is a term that we use regularly in social work and basically it means how are we taking care of ourselves. How are we replenishing our glass to be able to keep giving? Anyone in the working profession can tell you when you just give and give you burn out and that’s exactly what can happen in life if we don’t take care of ourselves we can and we will burn out.

#1: Pamper yourself

Okay so I know not everyone likes to pamper themselves, but hear me out when I say that when you feel good you actually de-stress and tend to accomplish more. So if you have been meaning to get that haircut or get your nails done do it! Spending time on yourself is one of the best investments you can do.

#2: Take time to do something you enjoy

Lately I have been reading and blogging a lot more because I know both of those things help reduce my stress and give me at least 30 min to a 1 hour of time where nothing else is pressing. Finding the time to achieve this is hard but totally worth it.

#3: Enjoy a treat!

Take the time to treat yourself to your favorite treat and if you have the time to make it that’s even better. I opted to get some freshly baked cupcakes at my local bakery.

#4: Take a moment to B R E A T H

A way that I enjoy taking a breath is by meditating and I use this wonderful app that gives me a 5 minute guided meditation that leaves me feeling calm and ready to tackle my day or the next part of my day.

I hope this was a good reminder to take sometime for yourself this week! You are important and you need to make sure that you are looking after yourself.

What is your favorite way to do self care?

Have a great Valentine’s Day!

Love is Love…

Happy Monday Everyone!

Instead of posting a regular makeup post like I try and do every Monday I want to take a moment to remember the 50 lives we lost this Sunday in the senseless shooting that occurred in Florida.

There are no words to describe what I was feeling on Sunday after I found out what had happened. I felt anger towards the person that took so many loved ones away from their families. I felt sadness that this is the biggest mass shooting the US has had in it’s history. I felt pride that so many people responded when they announced that they were in need of replenishing blood for the local Florida blood banks.

I want to leave you with a quote that my dad said on Saturday night as we were driving back home from an event that is very fitting for what occurred.

“I have so much love for people” “This body was made to give love” – My dad on Saturday night

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family that lost a loved one and the LGBT community!

I will be back with a regularly scheduled post on Wednesday.

My Simple Valentine’s Day Look

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today I am so excited to share with you all my Valentine’s Day Makeup. This is something I think would work for multiple activities and it can be changed up a bit depending on how bold/brave you want to be. I opted for a bright red lipstick and I love how this can something that I can wear into the office and carry it on for the rest of the day. I hope you enjoy this different step by step post to my usual ones.

Step one: Apply your favorite foundation and concealer. I love to high light my face with the concealer as well as cover up my under eye circles.

Step Two: Apply your favorite powder to ensure your make up stay in place and it last all day. Next tackle your brows if you need to. I just filled in some sparse areas.

Step Three: Curl your lashes if you want to then follow up by applying your favorite mascara. I love to define my eyes even more and apply mascara to my lower lashes as well, this step can be optional if you wish.

Step Four: Apply a red lip liner that is as close to the color of the lipstick that you own. Top off with one coat of you favorite red lipstick.

Step five: Apply a blush that is a hint more neutral rather than pink this will balance out the whole face. I like to apply my blush last to ensure that it will work with my whole face rather than regretting it after I have my lipstick on.

There you all go a step by step look at how I would wear my makeup for Valentine’s Day. What most likely is going to happen is that I am going to be at the gym and not really care what I look like that day so cheers to not having a significant other this valentine’s day.

Have a great day! I will see you on Wednesday.

Learning to Love yourself: Dear Future Me.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Today’s post is a personal one and I wouldn’t be hurt if you decided to skip this. Over the past 6 months I have been working on learning to really love who I am and what I believe in. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I really started enjoying who I am shaping out to be. I wrote a letter to my future self for those days I need a little extra pick me up. I hope you enjoy future Michelle!

Dear Future Self,

You are an amazing human being with flaws and your fair share of mistakes. You are a woman who stands for what she believes in and goes after what she wants. Some days you feel out of places and like you don’t belong, but trust me you will accomplish much more than what you believe you can. You have such a big heart and you love helping others, but you also know where your limits are, and that’s something you just learned. Speaking of learning you have realized that knowledge is an important piece of growing and you take every opportunity you can to research things that you enjoy.

You are a fighter and you have been since birth. You came into this world being a premature baby fighting to live and you succeeded. You may have some complications from that, but nothing that hasn’t made you stronger in the process. As you begin a new journey this Fall remember that you were destined to help others and that God has an amazing plan for you.

Looking back at your early twenties you have done things others wish that they could do. You skydived and traveled to Europe for a month. You got to ride a Gondola in Italy, see the eiffel tower and ride the London Eye all in a span of a month. You have visited Morocco and graduated from college. You got your first real world job and you seem to be pretty good at it. You have so much more to achieve and that’s the best part about this life. You have no idea what you will do next, but that is what makes you unique. Life is never a dull moment when you are around.

I hope this has made you realize how wonderfully flawed you are and how I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Love, M

I have to be honest this was the hardest thing to write. As humans we naturally think of the things we can improve or change. This letter was all about the great things that make me who I am and I hope you all enjoyed this.  If you are going through a hard time in life, know that you are beautiful and this too shall pass. You are stronger than what you know and there is always a light at the end of this tunnel we are all in.

See you all on Friday for a Sweet Treat post!

A Sweet Treat: Mini Cupcakes

Happy Friday Everyone!

Welcome! I am starting a baking series called Sweet Treats and it’s very fitting since Valentine’s Day is around the corner. This month all of the treats will be Valentine’s Day themed. Today I am going to show you how to create easy cupcakes that will require you to just mix all of the ingredients if you don’t have the time to make things from scratch.  You really don’t need worry about making things from scratch if you wish to create great tasting cupcakes. Just follow these tips:

One. If your box mix calls for water add milk instead it will add more flavor and give you a little bit of extra protein.

Two. Add a tsp. or tbsp. of vanilla extract. Make sure it’s good quality vanilla this will enhance the flavor of any box mix.

First off let’s go over what you will need:

-Mini Muffin Tin

-Boxed Cake mix

-Vanilla Extract

-Vegetable oil

– Canned icing or homemade if you are feeling adventurous, try this recipe.

-Sprinkles (colors & shapes)

-toothpick banners (from Target)

Step One: Mix all of the ingredients until you have a smooth batter.

Step Two: Place in your favorite muffin tin (I used a mini muffin tin)

Step Three: Decorate the mini cupcakes as you wish. I used a mixture of sprinkles and the cute banners from target.

I hope this inspires you to create a homemade treat for your sweet heart! Enjoy!

If you want more ideas on sweet treats to create for your loved one. Be sure to stay tune for the Oreo Cheesecake Truffles I will be making, and the Mini Autumn Cheesecake (which is the next sweet treat post next Friday!).

Have a great Weekend and I will see you on Monday!
