The Meaning Behind My Tattoo

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today I am sharing the story of how I got my first tattoo. I think I lightly touched based on it on this blog post. I wanted to take the time and explain why I decided to get my tattoo and what it means to me.

img_3358

On April 7th, 2017 I went with one of my friends from grad school to get a tattoo. She was getting something on her ribs and I was getting mine on my arm. I had contemplated a tattoo since 2012 and had held of because I wasn’t sure what I would want. I had decided that it had to do something with traveling, adventure, or something all encompassing with how I am. I searched on Pinterest for travel tattoos and I found many that I liked, but not necessary in love with. I finally looked at different words that caught my attention. Explore was one that I gravitated towards immediately.

Explore

Verb (Used with object), ex·plored, ex·plor·ing. to traverse or range over (a region, area, etc.) for the purpose of discover.

My actual experience getting my tattoo wasn’t the best. We had a tattoo artist who was relatively new to the shop and to the area. He did a great job with the tattoo, but he decided that he would hit on me while he was finishing up my tattoo which made me uncomfortable. He proceeded to ask for my number and I quickly dodged his questions by focusing on  my friend. I highly recommend you do your research on the shop and the tattoo artist. If you have time meet with the artist to make sure you are comfortable with them. I don’t regret getting my tattoo one bit. I just wish that I would have done more research on the tattoo artist.

Do any of you have any tattoos? If so what are they and do you mind sharing their meaning with me?

Have a great day and I will see you on Wednesday.

Cathedral Of Junk, Austin TX

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today I am sharing a little bit more of my trip to Austin, TX. One of the things we did was go to the Cathedral of Junk. Think of the saying ” One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. Well this is definitely a hidden treasure in a suburban neighborhood. As you can see from the first picture even the artist house has personality. img_0013

This is the artist of this Cathedral of junk. He was out and about answering questions other visitors had. I stood back and listened to what he said taking everything I was surrounded by. He plans on adding more to the cathedral and says he plans on tackling the new additions all by himself. This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. It made me appreciate the creativity that Austin, TX has.

I hope you all enjoyed this blog post! It’s definitely a place I recommend you go if you are in Austin, TX.

Have a great day! See you on Wednesday.

E.L.F Liquid Matte Lipsticks

IMG_0321

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Today I am sharing with you my thoughts on E.L.F’s Liquid Lipsticks. I had heard that these had been out for a while, but I could not find them anywhere in my area. I am also an inpatient person and didn’t want to wait until all of the shades I liked were back in stock.

These retail for $5 and come in 11 shades. You get Net 0.10 fl. oz. (3 mL) in each tube. I picked up the following shades: Blushing Rose, Tea Rose and Praline. You can purchase the whole shade range here.

Here is what E.L.F claims this liquid lipstick can do:

This Liquid Matte Lipstick achieves a long lasting, gorgeous matte finish. The formula is enriched with Vitamin E to help nourish and condition the lips. The slim, diamond shaped applicator gives you flawless application in just one stroke!

Overall I think these are great lip products if you are on a budget and want to try out the liquid lipstick craze. I don’t thinks these are very long lasting. If you eat and drink, these will wear off and leave your lips needing a touch up. If you are looking for something that will wear more evenly throughout the day and don’t mind spending a bit more money try the Tarte or Smashbox liquid lipsticks.

Have you tried these e.l.f Liquid Matte Lipsticks before? If so, what are your thoughts?

What is your go to liquid lipstick?

Have a great day! I will see you on Friday!

Getting Organized – 2018

IMG_0342

Happy Monday Everyone!

I have to admit that these last couple of years I have not been as organized as I could have been. I always start out with the intentions of sticking to a fancy planner I buy and about three months into the year I forget to keep up with it. I was a little bit better while I was in Grad school because I had so many deadlines that I had to get done. This year I decided to buy two inexpensive planners from Target. One for my main things in life such as work, doctors appointments, travel and other things. The second one solely for my blog. I am hoping this year I make a habit of being more organized with everything I am trying to tackle.

I am always curious how other people utilize planner and notebooks since I know that that has picked up steam in the last few years.

If you have any tips or tricks as to how I can get the most use out of both my planners, please do share your ideas with me?

Have a great day and I will see you on Wednesday!

17 things I learned in 2017

IMG_1524

Happy Friday Everyone!

I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since the start to 2018 and I’ve had a lot of time to think about what 2017 taught me. What lessons I learned that I want to apply to this new year. Coming into this year I am determined  to keep that growth going. I truly believe 2018 is going to be an amazing year for me and I hope for you all as well.

IMG_9048

  1. It’s okay to be scared. Life will through you curve balls and it’s okay to be afraid of what can happen. Just remember that everything happens for a reason and that one day you will look back and be thankful for how those things that you are scared of ended up shaping you.
  2. Love yourself. I spent most of my year focusing on others and putting myself on the back burner. I completely crumbled at the end of the year because I did not know how to love myself. The relationships I had built started to fall apart because something was missing, and that was knowing what I wanted and being okay with myself.
  3.  It’s okay to not be okay. The last 7 months of 2017. I was hanging on by a thread and I was faking being okay and having my sh*t in order only to fall apart behind closed door. I learned that it’s okay to not be okay and that everything will be okay if you decide to take care of yourself.
  4. Nothing is permanent. 2017 taught me that you have the power to change your situation. I also know you have to want to change your situation, but don’t let yourself thing you are stuck in a situation forever. You can control where you stand in your life.
  5. Wear Makeup if you want to. For the majority of the year I focused every morning on creating a beauty routine that would make me feel beautiful no matter what I was doing. I am so proud I took the time to do this because it has helped with my own self-esteem overall. I do have days where I don’t wear makeup, but I have realized that my morning routine is essential part of my day IMG_2287
  6. Travel more. This year I decide to travel and I cannot recommend this enough. I decide to treat myself to a big trip overseas and three smaller trips within the U.S and I am so glad I was able to do so. I learned so much and got to enjoy myself.
  7. Hustle. In 2017 I learned that when you want something you have to work really hard on achieving your dreams. So I hustle twice as hard as those around me. I currently have two jobs and I am planning on accomplishing big things this year.
  8. Spend more time with your loved ones. For the past two years I have made sure that I spend time with my parents and loved ones as often as I can. You never know when they won’t be here any more and you won’t be able to see them.
  9. Take more pictures. Capture more memories you won’t regret this.
  10. Take time to see the beauty around you. This past year I stopped to look at all the beauty that surrounded me; the sunsets, the moon, the stars, the faces of all of the people that surround me. I truly stopped and soaked it all in.IMG_0841
  11. I got creative. This past year I focused on more of my creative side. I baked, I drew, I stepped out of my comfort zone and started taking more pictures.
  12. I can do anything I set my mind to it. I was fortunate enough to be able to graduate with my MSW. This was something I did not think I was able to accomplish. It was hard and one of the most difficulty things I have ever done. At the end of it all I did it and no one can take that away from me.
  13. I learned to be okay with my sarcastic self. I realized that those who love me love that I can be sarcastic and I don’t need to hide that side of me.
  14. Do things that make you happy. Life is too short to not do what makes you happy. This past year I explored places I wanted to visit, I listened to more music, I created things I wanted to create and I listened to my heart.
  15. I let go of relationships that weren’t helping me grow. I stuck to my guns and removed those that did not add anything valuable to my life. I stopped begging for people’s time and attention. IMG_1086
  16. Red Lipstick. I started wearing more red lipstick because I can!
  17. Take a moment. Last but not least I learned to take a moment each day to reflect on just how wonderful I am. Even on the worst days I still managed to get out of bed and  that’s an accomplishment on it’s own.IMG_9291I hope that 2018 is filled with many more exciting adventures and that I continue to figure out who I am and what brings joy and happiness to my world.

What are some things you learned in 2017?

Have a great weekend! I will see you on Monday

Fenty Beauty- Mattemoiselle Plush Lipstick

IMG_9561

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Today I am swatching the Fenty Beauty- Mattemoiselle Plush Lipstick and giving you my first impression of these lipsticks. I picked up three shades: S1ngle, Spanked and Candy Venom. Yes I purchased the most wearable shades she brought out in her collection. I knew I didn’t want to buy any colors that were just going to sit around collecting dust. At $18 each lipstick you best believe I wasn’t going to buy a shade I would only wear once.

One thing I have noticed is that these are so creamy and moisturizing. They glide on and you have instant color. One thing to be careful about is that with the rounded tip you can’t be too precise while drawing your cupids bow. I had to use a lip brush to make sure I got the sharpest application.

Overall I love how long they stayed on my lips and that the color didn’t disappear. I have been reaching for S1ngle and Spanked because they don’t dry my lips out in this cold weather. I am saving Candy Venom for Spring time.

Have you tried these lipstick? If so, what is your opinion on them?

Have a great day and I will see you on Friday!
