Review: Maybelline Master Contour Face Contouring Kit

IMG_0197

Happy Friday Everyone!

Today I am reviewing one of the newest drugstore products you can find on shelves. It is the Maybelline face contouring kit. This comes in two shades: 10- light to medium and 20-  medium to deep. This retails between $9.99 and $12.99 depending on where you get it. This palette is suppose to help you achieve a beautiful contoured/healthy face in three easy step.

How they say you should apply it:

Step 1. CONTOUR
Use narrow side of brush. Blend bronzer in a “3” shape along the hairline and jawline and under the cheekbones.

Step 2. BLUSH
Use wide side of brush. Apply blush onto the cheekbones above bronzer and blend.

Step 3. HIGHLIGHT
Sweep finger above cheekbones and on center of forehead, chin and bridge of the nose.

What I think you should do:

1. CONTOUR
Use narrow side of brush. I think the brush they provide is ridiculous it is not going to give you a natural looking contour. In fact it will make you want to burn it because it’s so small. Use your favorite angled bronzer brush and Blend the bronzer in a “3” shape along the hairline and jawline and under the cheekbones. Blend until you feel it looks natural enough.

2. BLUSH
Use wide side of brush. Again with the crappy brush they provide. Seriously you aren’t going to get a natural looking application with that brush. Use your favorite fluffy blush brush and apply blush onto the cheekbones above bronzer and blend.

3. HIGHLIGHT
Sweep finger. Please don’t use your fingers you will get a very concentrated amount of highlight that way. Use a fan brush or a stipple brush with a very light hand to apply above cheekbones and on center of forehead, chin and bridge of the nose.

Overall I think this is a great idea for a palette we have so many high-end contour palettes that have played around with the same idea and I love that the drugstore has started carrying these. If you are new to the contouring game this is a very friendly way to jump right in and experiment.

Are you a fan of these kinds of palettes? What are your thoughts on this contour kit?

Have a great day!

TBH, I’m completely terrified of trying to contour. Everyone talks about it, everyone says once you learn its super easy… I’m mostly worried about looking like a pancaked faced mess. But… you did say this palette is an easy way to experiment for beginners. I might just have to give it a try. Thanks for the post. =)
